We’re so excited to celebrate another amazing Free Coffee Day!
You might be thinking, "Wait, didn't Compass just do a Free Coffee Day last week? What’s up?" You're totally right, we did, and we’re back at it again. But the reason might surprise you.
Free Coffee Day isn't just about grabbing a drink on us (though let's be honest, that's pretty awesome). It's about something bigger. It's our way of saying hi, catching up, and celebrating this amazing city we're lucky to call home.
Back in the early days, every cafe opening at Compass was marked by a Free Coffee Day. Naturally, we were pretty nervous that first time. Would people show up? Would they like our coffee? But when we saw a line stretching down the block and smiling faces excited to check us out, our nerves melted away. There was something incredibly special about meeting so many new faces, starting conversations, and laying the groundwork for the community we hoped to build.
Then COVID changed everything, especially downtown DC. Streets that once hummed with laughter and conversation suddenly fell quiet. "Cafes that once welcomed hundreds of people a day struggled to reach even ten," said CEO Michael Haft. "It was heartbreaking seeing businesses close their doors and downtown streets empty out. But over the past four years, we've witnessed an incredible, gradual recovery, and we're proud to have stuck by DC through all of it."
It was tough for us and everyone in the city. But DC didn't give up, and neither did we. Slowly but surely, we've seen downtown come back to life, and it's honestly amazing to watch.
And now, here we are today, and the energy downtown feels incredible. There are so many new faces, fresh stories, and connections waiting to be made. We realized there might be a lot of people who don’t know Compass yet, and we thought, "Why not bring back Free Coffee Day as a way to reintroduce ourselves?"
Plus, we’re launching our brand summer menu, making it the perfect chance for you to try some tasty, refreshing drinks, totally on us. Free Coffee Day has become about so much more than coffee. It’s about reconnecting with your neighbors, community, and friends. It’s about meeting our amazing Compass team and celebrating everything that makes DC so vibrant.
