WASHINGTON - Today, Compass Coffee opened the doors of its newest cafe, located at 655 New York Ave NW, across the street from the Walter E. Washington Convention Center. This new cafe anchors an impressive new commercial property from Brookfield Properties and Douglas Development. Part of the allure of this building is the mix of modern and traditional—a theme that seems at home in the Mount Vernon Triangle area, from the mix of marble and steel at the convention center to the forthcoming Apple flagship store being constructed a short walk away at the old Carnegie Library. This trend wasn’t lost on Compass’s Cafe Design and Fabrication Teams.

“As a company that is built and deeply rooted in Washington, DC, we are extraordinarily excited for this new location,” remarks Cafe Designer, Joel Shetterly. “We got our start as a company just down the street. In many ways, seeing Compass Coffee in this neighborhood is familiar, but this cafe takes everything we’ve learned over the years—from cafe design to bar flow—and puts them into something completely new. The perfect mix of familiarity and modernity.”

This new cafe moves away from the standard white oak interiors in all of Compass Coffee’s previous cafes to a much darker wood, creating a comforting and homey space that will be welcoming to those traveling from all over the world to attend conferences at the convention center as well as those who live in the neighborhood.

Update: The address of this cafe has been changed to reflect the position of the cafe door on 7th Street NW rather than the front door of the building on New York Ave NW to limit confusion while navigating by GPS. The new address is 1023 7th St NW.
