Compass Coffee's newest cafe in Spring Valley is geared towards students and families alike.

WASHINGTON - Local Washington, DC-based coffee roaster, Compass Coffee, opens its newest cafe at 4850 Massachusetts Ave NW. This newest location is in an outdoor strip mall anchored by home decor and furniture store, Crate and Barrel, across the street from American University’s School of Education and just a short distance from American University’s main campus. It is Compass Coffee’s eighth total location and seventh in the District.

“We’re very excited to be here,” says VP of Corporate Development, Kuran Malhotra. “We have a great history with American University and we’re looking forward to building new relationships with students and faculty. This is a beautiful space and we know both the American University and Spring Valley communities will enjoy it.”

This cafe features a childrens’ play area, complete with toys and blocks, catering to the young families moving into the Spring Valley neighborhood. Additionally, the cafe is built with students in mind. There is a fireplace where students can cozy up during long cold brew-fueled study sessions and a large communal table separate from the main seating area where groups of students can work together.

“Meeting people where they are and adapting to new situations to meet our customers’ needs has always been something incredible important to Compass Coffee,” continues Malhotra. “We’re moving into both an established academic community and a growing family environment. When we were planning this cafe, we wanted to create a space that would become a mainstay in both those communities for years and generations to come.”
